Hello from sunny Minnesota! It's forecast to be up to 34 degrees here in the Twin Cities, which is the warmest it's been for a month, and the first time it'll get over freezing for all of January.
The next few days aren't going to be quite so warm, though. Why the cold we've seen this winter? It's the product of the southern La Nina phenomenon, the chilling sister to the El Nino who warms his weather up.
But this cold is bringing no relief from global warming. Last week there was a record-breaking heat wave in Australia, where it's summer right now. They had power outages because of the heat, and transportation problems when train rails buckled. People had to get on buses when trains didn't run. This kind of heat won't hit so soon here in Minnesota, but it's coming in the southern US in not too long.
There are many studies done these days on climate change, and there have been huge advances in climate science in just the past ten years. Now 97 percent of climate scientists agree global warming is happening. There are a few dissenters among other kinds of scientists, but they're only people with opinions. The real experts in the field have little room for doubts.
One notable study came out last week. Some scientists now show how long their models predict global warming is going to endure. And it's going to last a long time according to this new study.
It's going to last a thousand years. That is, if emissions of greenhouse gases keep rising like they are now until near the end of the 21st century.
The reason for it is some science that isn't really too complicated. It's pretty easy to understand. Right now with the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the air always increasing, the world would already be warmer but the oceans are absorbing a lot of that heat. After a while the oceans will store up that heat, and when emissions are stopped, say one hundred years from now, the oceans will then release their excess heat.
So when the heat of the sun isn't trapped in the air as much anymore, and the world would then cool faster, the oceans will keep it warm yet when they release their heat. The models predict this ocean-air dynamic will keep temperatures steady for a thousand years even though CO2 levels will have gone down by then. And that warmer sea water will expand and raise sea levels by a few feet in addition to the many feet they'll rise from the melting of Greenland and the glaciers worldwide.
There are also other problems with the warming water. It's already becoming more acidic and soon won't host the kind of life anymore that has shells on the outside. The shells dissolve in the acidic waters. And the warmer waters can hold less oxygen, so dead zones are also foretold in many places in the oceans all around the world, where no life of any kind can exist but the simplest of organisms.
The fish are going to be gone and the coasts are going to flood. That's going to bring devastation like the world has never known. Today even though people know sea levels are already rising, there is ever more concentration of people and property on the coasts.
Development on the coasts is all going to be destroyed, and none of even the wealthiest nations can afford to save cities like New York.
This is what John the Baptist showed would happen in these Last Days when he baptized people. And it was a Sign that spoke of salvation to Christians for all these past two thousand years.
Even if you're skeptical now, if you're young enough to see the flooding start to happen, you'll want to believe in this Ultimate Baptism as you see the coasts immersed along with many inland floods from the bigger storms of global warming.
Jesus had a Baptism to be baptized with, and it was His Death on the Cross He spoke of. You'll relate when you see the death and destruction of the coasts and the inland storms. You'll want to take up your own cross and follow Jesus, and He'll reward you by cutting short these days of trouble. But you can see these things already happening; sea levels have already started to rise along with world temperatures.
So today already you know to watch for Jesus. He'll return in these End-Times, and He'll make His Home in your heart and in your mind when you watch for Him coming. But you need to watch to receive Him within you, because He said He'll come as a Thief. He means to catch those who won't watch but when you do watch you have His Promise of His Return soon, if not today. Honor God.
