"Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah." Psalm 33:12.
That's not just poetry, that's revelation from Heaven. Is there a nation on earth totally sold out to God? If it is not prospering now, look for it to soon.
America truly holds the records for churches, missions, and most other Christian categories. God has spared her from the worst of judgments so far, and prospered her beyond her means to contain it. There are seeds of self-destruction here, (abortion, homosexuality, sexual perversion, and worst of all, a weakening church) but so far God has stayed His hand.
By contrast, some nations have been forced into the worship of a man. What can be said about a nation whose God is anyone but Jehovah?
"Righteousness exalts a nation..." Proverbs 14:34 The opposite is true, too. Genesis 20 tells the story of a "righteous", that is, morally good man and nation that had fallen into disfavor with God because of its unsuspecting mistreatment of Abraham. Because Abimelech and Gerar were ignorant of what they were doing, God spared and continued to bless that nation when Abimelech cried out, "Will you slay a righteous nation?" No. No curse.
Until later. In II Chronicles the area around Gerar attacked the nation of Judah under King Asa, a righteous man. To attack the righteous knowingly is to incur the wrath of God and later Gerar was decimated.
The nations need to understand that if they attack God's people knowingly, only problems will ensue. "Sin is a reproach to any people," says God. (Proverbs 14:34). Nations rise and fall under the clear direction of God. He is longsuffering, patient, but judgment always comes when men and their domains turn their backs on Him.
Let's ask God to raise up righteousness in those places where evil reigns. One thing for sure, any nation exalting itself above the excellency of Jesus Christ needs to take these words to heart: "The kingdoms of this world [will] become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ!" Handel did not make that up, it's from the book of Revelation, 11:15. Some day righteousness will be exalted all over this globe. I am looking forward with great joy to that day!
http://chosunhouse.com is a website I put together a few months back to get the word out to believers that they need to pray for North Korea. Just about every day I'm writing a blog featuring some news, a book, or a story of North Korea. There's a live news feed on the site, lists of resources, picture essays, and ways to respond to the overwhelming need in North Korea. Let's love Chosun together!
And who am I? A man found of God over 50 years ago, called to the ministry, serving the Lord as needed in my world. Married, member of a local church in the Chicago area, with full time work in public education. Who are you? Would love to fellowship with believers who respond on my site.
